The State in Between

The truth is I love the frothy clouds on my hot chocolate best of all.
I like my hair most when I let it dry in the air, wild and messy.
I would listen to acoustic covers of songs all day long if I had the opportunity,
and sometimes things just don't make sense.

Things that should mean something to you fly over your head like a butterfly, while drops of ocean wash over you and throw you across the room with a rushing impact.

Tonight I heard someone who I used to know.
The song is one of my favorites and it took me by surprise that he likes it too.
I wanted to cry, but didn't.
Do you know those moments when you're not sure
what emotions are coming through to the surface?
You're not happy enough to cry for joy and not sad enough to cry for pain.
It's that state in between,
the state in between where you just can't cry.

I'm reminded how people can leave such a deep mark on our lives,
even when we thought they never would.
It's really beautiful.
God made us. He made some of us to pass right by one another without a glance,
and others to stop in the middle of the busy intersection to stop and stare for just a moment,
a moment barely long enough to remember for years.

This shouldn't be the state in between, should it? It should be a smile that crinkles your nose.

Smile because life isn't flat and and saltless.
Smile at the forgotten lyrics taking you back too fast.
Smile when your heart skips a beat, remembering what was said.
Smile when you hear a voice that sounds like an angel.
Smile because there are those people who step through the threshold of your life,
take their clean sleeve and clear your damp eyes out.
Smile because today you have the opportunity to give away hugs and smiles
to those around you, offering your sleeve.

Smile because today is so incredible and you're living it!

And for cheeriness, here's a note (pun fully intended) of sweet randomness. Anthem Lights released a new cover yesterday on Youtube. You have no idea how happy this made me (it's sad how much, really ;) ). Listen and be *all* Christmasy. Why don'tcha so get something hot to drink at some point today and pop in a movie that makes you laugh? I almost forgot... a comfy blanket is a must, grab a comfy blanket. They are pretty much the best things ever. :)

Thiiis part ^^ was my favooorite. <3 I loved all of it though really. And i totally get that state. I don't know why but I've been a mixture of melancholy and happy these days. So I've found like a sheltered home in that state. I think it has to do with the big change. Because im 18 now, im in college, im making new friends and saying goodbye to old friends. I'm keeping busy but sometimes in the rush, if you take time to note what's going on its sorta scary and exciting. Its a new chapter, and life will keep going at full force like a train and some of it, most of it, is out of our control and it's crazy. It's hard to keep up with but we all do. And the weird thing is I don't know where the train is headed but i just keep going with it and trust the driver. But the change, realizing the change and changes in my life, it's starting to make me feel mixed with happiness and sadness. Because sometimes i miss old things, even though the new things are nice. It's just sad that we have to leave a part of our old life to make room for our new life sometimes.

That was a bit off topic because I think your mixed state is a little different. It sounds like yours is about a guy. And I actually get that too, ive been impacted by a few that I have liked in the past and that didn't work out. But even though it didn't work out, instead of dwelling on the fact that it didn't work out, I focus more on what I can take out of it. Of how they changed me in little ways and made me happy. And tried to keep that instead. :) So i like that, i like your perspective, your quotes. And i agree we should smile. Life's too shrot to NOT smile. Even if things are bittersweet, try to lean and soak up the sweet more than the bitter.

    1. Oh, thank you. :) And I know what you mean. Change is so strange... I think the strangest at this stage of life, still close to childhood, yet walking into adulthood. But it's kind of exciting sometimes, and a little scary. It's sad, and wonderful and everything rolled up together, haha!

Yes, and I honestly think that smiling is one of the most underestimated blessings in life. :)

  3. Love this post, it made me happy and smile. ^_^

That is a nice cover, not my favorite version (Michael Buble and Maria Carey are awesome) but it sounds wonderful!

Btw, you make me smile quite often, you are a dear friend. :) <3

    1. Oh, that is such a compliment! <3 I don't wanna make you come close to tears, but I guess that means I got the emotion more on target than I thought I did. ;) Thank you, Liv! :)

  5. I love it. I love the line about some people being in your life for you to stop and stare at while others simply pass right through. It's funny when you discover the people who have been there for you to stop and stare at for years, yet you never took the time to lift your head and see them.

Very intriguing. I love your writing, my friend! You always get me thinking :) <3
