A Piece Of My Heart

Last night me and my parents went to a Kenny Rogers concert, and although I felt a bit out of place (almost the only one younger than fifty) I honestly had a memorable night. I'll probably try to post pictures soon of the lit trees lining the downtown street of Montgomery, because it was magical, it really was. But the singing was even better, and yes music holds a bigger place in my heart than I knew before.

The way home, I was leaning up against the backseat window, with the soft music playing, comforted by the fact my parents were right there, being grateful to feel like a little girl again for a few minutes. Those moments are irreplaceable and I'm so glad I've finally gotten over being "too old" to need them.

Today I  listened to John Denver while braiding my hair, missing and longing for Tennessee. You'd know what I mean if you were part of my family, so listen in, and maybe you can be an honorary family member. Growing up, me and my three sisters would go with my parents to the mountains of Tennessee, the Smokey Mountains, that is. For as long as I remember it has been another home, the trees, the Little Pigeon River where I stick my feet in, on top of the smooth worn rocks and shiver, the mountains themselves that take your breath away at first sight; it's all my home. And throughout all these years the songs of John Denver have taken me back to it, the memories of driving through the shining trees while listening to "Country Roads" or taking in a perfect sky as "Sunshine On My Shoulder" plays. It's like going back home to hear these songs, and therefore makes me homesick at the same time. But it's a sweet homesick, because it reminds me I'll be back in my mountains soon enough.

This isn't like any blog post I've written, because basically it has no rhyme or reason, just purely and straightforwardly a piece of what's in my heart right now, today. To me, you're a friend, reader, and true friends deserve to know the heart of what's going on in that person's life, whether it be about songs that take them back to childhood or anything else that really matters to them, not small talk and the weather. So, this is a piece of my heart today, just because.

Blessings & Love

  1. Oh goodness, I'm totally here with ya. It's exactly the same way with my family and the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the music is Creedence Clearwater Revival and Fleetwood Mac :)

Can I be an honorary family member??? :D

    1. Ahh, really?! That's awesome. :D There's something about mountains, isn't there?

Of COURSE you can be! :D

  2. You know, it's strange... I feel that way about the beach and my real home, here at the Lake of the Ozarks. I could no doubt try to indicate all the possible similarities -- they're both focused on the water, for Pete's sake =P -- but I rarely do. I just take the feeling for what it is. Lovely. X)

[And I can't wait to go back to the beach, too. Already trying to convince my parents to RESERVE THAT ONE PLACE AGAIN. xD ;)]

    1. Awwww, what is it about these places taking our hearts like that?! Haha, ohh I'm trying to convince my folks too... actually about the Smokies AND Panama City, Florida, because I'm a mountain AND beach girl, haha. I already decided I'll have two homes someday, one in Tennessee, one in Florida. That's all there is to it. xD
